Prompt / From a Book

This week’s prompt is ‘from a book’.  It could be a character who stole your heart, a concept you want to make come to life, or an inspiring scene!

My EXAMPLE

I decided to recreate my version of little brother’s lobster costume from the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert.  Elizabeth shared the story of an inspiring artist who attends a party in France (in a castle!) attended by the rich and famous and royalty.  The protagonist handmakes his costume (a lobster) only to find out on arrival, that the party was not an open fancy dress invite but specifically themed as ‘medieval court’.

“I have never created anything in my life that did not make me feel, at some point or another, like I was the guy who just walked into a fancy ball wearing a homemade lobster costume.  But you must stubbornly walk into that room, and you must hold your head high. Never apologize for it, never explain it away, never be ashamed of it.  You did your best with what you knew, and you worked with what you had, in the time you were given.  You were invited, you showed up, and you simply cannot do more than that.”

Your next step is to go forth and create, then share it via insta using the #syartprompts tag.
New prompts are sent out via my newsletter (which you can sign up for below)
